It was a great start to Fire Prevention Week and to celebrate five years of business in Okotoks.

Denny's along with the Okotoks Fire Department teamed up to raise money for the department which was then donated to another local cause.

Owner Anurag Sharma says a breakfast favourite helped pave the way.

"In total we sold 484 Grand Slams times $1.99 comes to $968 which will be donated to the fire department which will be donated to the Foothills Country Hospice," he says.

Sharma says he was impressed with the turnout for the day.

"It was a great success, community involvement was very encouraging and very exciting.  We actually exceeded our expectations for a fantastic response from the community."

The $968 will go towards the operations of the Hospice, Sharma says it was an honour to work alongside the Fire Department.

"They had their whole group of firefighters who were here mingling with the guests, there was also a mock demonstration on how to put out a fire where they used a laser fire extinguisher and let anybody who was interested to try putting it out."
