Looks like Halloween is "on" for the Town of Turner Valley this year.

Mayor Barry Crane says of course it's going to be different with the pandemic, and precautions need to be taken, but the Town won't be interfering in the annual trick or treating.

"This year, obviously a little trepidation and worries about security and safety. But, for me, I'm going to hand out candy and scare some kids in the driveway and I'm hopefully going to bring a smile to their face in times when things aren't so normal and exciting."

Crane says you may have to put a bit more thought into it this year, but there's no reason it can't be safe for the kids to go trick or treating.

"I would say that it's a parental choice, traditional choice, a common sense choice. Look out for your best interests. If you're a senior, maybe keep the lights off. There's some things to consider. But I think they're all surmountable and we can have a safe Halloween if people get onboard."

Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, has already given her stamp of approval to door-to-door trick or treating this year.

She says it's safer going outside to collect candy, than holding large indoor gatherings.
