Despite COVID-19, work continues to recover a Canadian World War II Halifax bomber from the sea floor off the coast of Sweden.

Bomber Command Museum of Canada Director, Karl Kjarsgaard, says they have had to push this Summer's efforts back a bit though.

"We've had to delay and we're going to go in the month of August. These rules are changing and when you have an international project like that, each country is different in their rules and what they're doing to protect their people. Right now we're looking at most likely an August salvage of the Halifax. That could be changed."

Kjarsgaard, says in the meantime, many other parts they've recovered over the years are being assembled by another team in Ottawa.

"All of those parts that we've recovered from all over the world that we have in Ottawa at Knox Tech shop, all of that's been put together and we've got the first section of Halifax bomber that's 30' x 8'. That first section is being riveted together as we speak."

He says they're hoping to get a large number of parts from the Halifax in Sweden, including the air frame.

He says they have a Swedish dive team ready to go, along with salvage boats and other equipment that can hit the water when the time comes.
