High River's Joe Clark school received a cheque for $500 Wednesday from the Educational Partnership Foundation.

President and CEO of the Foundation, Din Ladak says they love to support initiatives like the servant leadership program at the school.

"We provide what we call Citizenship In Action grants and those are grants that are provided to schools anywhere between $500 and $1,000 for schools that are doing heroic acts of good citizenship," Ladak says. "Now in 2013 the history is that we gave High River $10,000 during the flood season as well, so that's part of what we do."

He says another program they have is Reading, Give It A Shot, in conjunction with the Flames Foundation. It provides early literacy incentives to schools and students between K-6 and is very popular.

Ladak says they reached 20,000 students last year and hope to hit 30,000 this year.

The Gardening Club at Joe Clark school grows lettuce and makes salads for the classes while the Smile Club makes cards for seniors and ornaments for people in Fort McMurray.

The students act as ambassadors, greeting people and opening doors and recyclers clean out milk and juice boxes.

The Leader In Me program is designed to develop seven leadership habits in children and help them become leaders in the community.
