A project that's working to generate more tourism locally has received $70,000.

Thanks to Alberta Culture and Tourism, Cool Little Towns will now work to target the Foothills as day trip and weekend getaway options from Calgary.

Last year the first phase was completed which involved a tourism assessment on all of the participating communities.

Regional Lead Alexandra Ross says the next step through the grant is connecting the towns involved.

"Phase two will enable us to actually go and implement and create some of those tours that connect all of the communities."

Cool Little Towns includes Nanton, High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, and Bragg Creek. Okotoks is included as well and has taken the lead role in the project.

Ross says there will be more than maps involved.

"It will also be compiling and gathering some videos and photos, and encouraging people to explore the region south of Calgary," she says. "There will be specific tours people will be able to explore and coordinate with others."

Ross adds the routes will try to accommodate the numerous events that take place in the foothills so tourists can stop by and take them all in.
