With summer coming to an end, so is road work season in the Town of High River.

There have been a few delays on the projects this year, due to problems being uncovered when the roads are dug up.

However, weather hasn't been an issue this year.

Engineer Coordinator Jim Duckworth says it is a nice change compared to last year.

"When we start to open up the ground sometimes there are surprises down there and that causes little delays here and there," said Duckworth.

Work on 5th Ave. S.E. is 95 percent complete, just some minor touch ups are needed to finish.

Work will be getting started on 4th Ave.S.E. between from 2nd to 3rd St. to replace a bad water main and the other utilities while they are down there.

And Macleod Trail in front of Spitzee School is set to reopen on Sept. 5 but the work on 3rd St. east of the school will take until the end of September.

The costs for the road work over the last three years has been covered by a flood relief

"Generally the programs we have been working with the last couple of years have all been part of rehabilitation and mitigation from the flood. Replacing damage to sanitary and storm sewer and we have taken the opportunity to replace the water at the same time because of the age."

The majority of the funding has come from DRP and long term recover grants as a result of the floods.
