Crews have begun planting trees around High River as part of the town’s Annual Tree Replacement Program.

Arborist for the town Darlene Donovan says it happens every year.

"We have in our Tree Maintenance Budget every year fund to replace trees that have been removed due to age, disease or damage."

She says this year they'll be planting 104 trees at a cost of $25,000.

She says they should be done by Wednesday and reminds residents if you get a tree in front of your property you can water it but leave the pruning and fertilizing to them.

Project Manager Bryce Belanger with Five Star Trees a local company in the Foothills says there's a good variety too.

"We have Burr Oak trees, American Elm, Thunderchild Crabapple, Gladiator Crabapple, a lot of poplar went into George Lane Park to go with the existing trees and some Spruce."

He says the trees will be planted in parks and on streets and boulevards throughout the town.

So don't be too surprised if you see a new tree in front of your property.

Town Arborist Darlene Donovan says she has a few requests for people that do get a tree by their property.

"We always request that anybody that gets a tree planted in front of their property you're welcome to water it but please don't prune or add any fertilizer, we'll look after doing that."

She says the project should wrap up on Wednesday May 18.
