It's been warm but it's going to get hotter over the next few days.

That means a lot of people will be plugging in fans and air conditioners to stay cool.

Dawn Delaney, a spokesperson for the Alberta Electric System Operator or AESO, says they have strong contingency plans in place to ensure that during times of high demand procedures are followed to maintain a reliable source of electricity...

"Right now we have an adequate amount of supply to meet the demands, and the foreseeable demands that we see with our heat wave," Delaney says. "Over the course of the last year we've added more than 1,700 megawatts of generation to the grid so from a reliability standpoint we're in good shape."

Delaney says the demand for power continues to grow in our province but the good news is that we're currently experiencing some of the lowest electricity prices that we've seen in years. The year-to-date pool price is $35.00 in Alberta.

She says it is always a good idea to conserve and suggests holding off using large appliances like washers and dryers during the peak hours of 4 and 7 p.m.
