Children affected by cancer will get to walk the gold carpet at the premiere Feb. 27 of the documentary Little Golden Stars, on their battle, and the people helping them fight it.

Volunteer with the event, Katie Vogt says the kids will get dressed up, have their hair and make up done and be driven to the event at Flames Central in limos.

Vogt says it's all about treated the kids to a whole afternoon and evening of star treatment so they can forget for a little while their cancer and the treatment they're going through daily.

Among those walking the carpet will be 10-year-old Alainna Clarke of High River.

Vogt says it puts them at the centre of attention but in a more positive way than they usually are.

"The documentary itself will focus on a few families in and around the Calgary area that have been going through treatment of different sorts," she says. "It's also focusing on the research that a doctor we're working with, Dr. Mahoney from the Foothills Hospital who also has a lab there and he's doing cutting edge research of cancer drugs that are less invasive than the ones that we currently have."

Vogt says what a lot of people are not aware of is that there are only about a half dozen drugs available for young people because most of the drugs have only been tested on adults.

She says there will be a live and silent auction to raise money for cancer research.
