The Rowan House Women's Emergency Shelter is putting the focus on awareness this month.

November is Family Violence Prevention month.

Ally Cramm with Rowan House says the effort will be visible in downtown High River.

"We have some purple ribbons with a family violence statistic or information attached to them so that if people are walking around downtown they can say, 'Hey what's this purple ribbon' then they can see that it is \Family Violence Prevention Month and learn a little bit about how family violence affects our community," she says. "It's kind of nice to take a month and we can kind of raise the volume on our prevention efforts and get more voices in joining in saying family violence is not o-k."

Cramm says they also put a lot of effort into going into the schools and talking about healthy relationships, dating violence, red flags, everything that they should be watching for in the hopes that they will learn in advance what a healthy relationship looks like, and not get into those situations as easily.

She says the campaign will kick-off November 12 right after Remembrance Day out of respect for veterans.
