As part of Alberta Culture Days, the Town of Okotoks is hosting Harvest Fest this weekend.

Foothills residents will be able to take in wagon rides, antique farming equipment, bouncy castles, a petting zoo, and the Okotoks Farmers' Market. Harvest Fest has partnered with the United Way for the event by having old fashioned carnival games to help kick off their fundraising season.

Mark Doherty, community events coordinator, says it's an event that caters to Foothills residents.

"This is something that we don't want to grow too big," he says. "It's just for our local audience, we have a number of big events throughout the summer and this is just a really cool little event that takes place for our local residents."

Harvest Fest will be bringing back a feature that was introduced last year. The horse drawn wagon rides will go through Scarecrow Alley by South Railway Street along the river. Last year saw about 20 scarecrows lined up and this year Doherty says there will be more, thanks to the help of local Girl Guides who helped put them together earlier this week.

Doherty says the antique farm equipment at the event makes for a great attraction.

"Some of these gentlemen that have restored these have invested hours and hours and hours... they have to refurbish different parts to it and they're quite proud of their wares and love to talk about the restoration efforts on their tractors."

The day will also feature live entertainment from Maria Zimmerman (11 a.m. - noon), Wildflower (noon- 1 p.m.), and the Sheep River Bandits (1 p.m.- 3 p.m.).

Harvest Fest gets underway at Ethel Tucker Park on Sat. Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m.
