With the weather forecast in the middle twenties this weekend, it's finally time to get planting.

Katrina Diebolt, owner of Vales's Green House in Black Diamond, says this is the weekend to get your veggies in the dirt.

"You have probably already planted your peas and your cold weather crops," said Diebolt. "The carrots and the beets and maybe the Swiss chard and the spinach, but now we can start putting the more tender veggie seeds in the ground."

Diebolt says it is time to put in the potatoes, which can rot if you put them in too early, and beans, which are a tropical plant.

"They can probably get in the soil now because the soil is warm enough for sure."

She adds some of the best vegetable gardens are planted the first week of June.

"You need to get your seed potatoes and at least your seeds picked up at the garden centres now."

Diebolt says if you are late planting the veggies this year, don't panic, the best garden she ever grew was planted on June 15.

"For lots of reasons it didn't get done until then, and it turned out amazing because the soil was warm and the days were warm and it really grew fast."

The other piece to get working on this weekend is your containers.

"And all your fancy bits around the house and in the garden, because they do take a little bit longer. They are something people do like to spend a bit of time on and make them look beautiful."

Diebolt adds between the vegetables and the containers it should fill up your weekend.
