With the long weekend fast approaching, it's starting to fill up at High River's George Lane Park Campground.

Site Manager Darlene Wilms says while they get people from all over the world coming to stay there, they also get plenty from right around the corner... Literally.

"We get a lot of our customers from High River. They just want to come out for a night or two and go camping. And have the camping experience. You know, have the fire going. We get a lot from Okotoks, Calgary and a lot from the U.S. staying overnight and then heading to Alaska."

She says one of the best parts is the campers who stop on their way back from fishing in Alaska who share their catch with Wilm and her husband Wolf.

She says it's not uncommon to get people at the park from other other side of the world.

"We had one camper from Italy here last week. We had four campers come in from Germany. We get a lot of tourists that'll fly in from overseas, rent a motorhome and then come and stay with us for two or three days and then head down to the States. We get people from California, Mexico, Florida, from everywhere."

Wilms says if you didn't book your spot last year, you're out of luck.

"Sorry about that. But give is a phone call and we'll get you in for next year."

She says not all is lost though.

"We do have a long waiting list, and we do have the odd cancellation. The way the economy was going, people lost their jobs or had to sell their unit and had to cancel. We have a waiting list and we'll go down our waiting list and get you in no problem."

Wilms says they're booked solid for long weekend's between now and Labour Day.

But she says if you don't mind coming out during the week they usually have spots.
