Do you have someone in mind that you can nominate for the 2016 Alberta Farm Animal Care awards?

Angela Greter, Executive Director of AFAC says it's that time of year again.

"Every year, a couple months ahead of the conference we invite basically anybody to submit a nomination in one of three categories for people they think are deserving of an Award of Distinction."

Greter says the three categories are Communication, Industry Leadership and Innovation.

Nominees are usually people that have made a significant change or contribution within the farming industry.

Greter implies if your nominee is anything like the mandate of AFAC you're off to a good start.

"Basically we are here to advance and promote responsible and humane animal care. We are in the industry working together so it's a collaboration between all commodity groups, individual farmers, post secondary

institutions and government. We all work together to further that in today's livestock community in Alberta."

Greter says anybody can be involved in animal welfare, but this is a chance to take notice of people within the industry who are making a difference.

You have until February 15, 2016 to shout out a nominee, and awards will be doled out at the Livestock Care Conference on March 23 in Olds, Alberta.

If you have someone you'd like to nominate AFAC wants to hear from you. "People make their nominations directly to AFAC by writing a letter. Then we take that information and summarize it for our Board and then our

Board meets and votes on each category."

Greter says you don't have to write a book, just briefly explain why your nomination qualifies for the award in each of the categories.
