Yet another blow to Albertans, as the price of gas is about to spike.

Gas stations could see the price of gas go up by 14 to 16 cents by tomorrow, with some prices in the Foothills already at the 122.9 mark.

Senior Petroleum Analyst with gasbuddy.com Dan McTeague says motorists should fuel up before Thursday.

"I think it would be wise for people to gas up now before tomorrow (Thursday)," he says. "We could see prices start to increase as soon as retailers sell-off their inventory, they will have to buy gasoline net 14,15 or 16 cents higher than what they would have paid Monday morning."

While some gas stations' prices have yet to go up, some stations in the Foothills have already seen a jump up to 122.9 per litre.

The wholesale value of gasoline is expected to climb around 25 cents higher when all is said and done.

McTeague says we'll see the increase for the next month and half as refineries catch-up on demands.

"Don't panic," he says. "The BP refinery does not appear to be getting out of it's problems at least for the next few weeks, so this high price is potentially going up to the $1.25 range in Alberta and also here in Okotoks. We could see those prices remain at least until the first, second or third week in September."

McTeague says the shortage of gas is due to refineries having shut down because of production issues, and it's not just south of the border that's been hit with problems.

"Edmonton, all three refineries over the past month had one form or another of production issues that have affected them," he says. "That's also propped the up the price of gasoline more than just the cost of crude (oil), so it's a bit of cruel joke for a lot of people."
