The Foothills school board plans to let the Alberta government know how it feels about public money going to private schools.

Trustee Jeannine Tucker says right now students in public schools are funded at 100 per cent while private school students are funded at 70 per cent.

She says they are responding to a motion made my PC MLA Ric McIvor calling on the government to reaffirm its support for parents to chose where and how their children are educated.

"We as a board wanted to have it in writing how we felt about it, and that is we don't want funding to private schools to erode the money that is intended for public schools, where all students, regardless of their abilities, capabilities, disabilities are welcome to come to school," Tucker says.

She says the Alberta School Boards Association is collecting responses from boards to make sure the government is aware of their feelings.
