The Foothills School Division is hoping to have a new name for the Okotoks Community Campus K-9 school soon.

They're currently seeking individuals to join the naming committee for the school, located on 32nd St.

Students, parents, teachers, administration, and community representatives will form the committee, which will include a maximum of two members from each group.

Candace Denison, FSD Communications Manager, says committee will be tasked with consulting the community about the school's name, formulating an appropriate name, and presenting a recommendation to the FSD Board of Trustees.

"They're going to be sitting down together and discussing, trying to come up with some options for names for the school," she says. "Then the committee makes a recommendation to the Board of Trustees regarding what the school name should be, and the board will approve that hopefully before the end of the school year."

Denison says anyone who's interested can join the committee, especially Okotoks residents, particularly those living within the new school area.

She says there's already been some inventive ideas thrown around for the school's name.

"There has been everything from landmarks, to people, to just different topics and issues, and it's really time that brings out and inspires. People start having some really meaningful discussions about what this building should be named for."

Community representatives can submit an application until Jan. 17.

The first meeting will be held Jan. 25.

Construction is set to start on the Community Campus school this spring.
