After having a year to work with the Province's new way of dealing with school fees the Foothills School Division has a plan for the upcoming year.

Assistant Superintendent Drew Chipman says it is really a better understanding of fees.

"School fees are going to change next year," said Chipman. "But it is really based on what they are doing. So schools that are doing more things, there are more fees added."

He said there are very little increases for specific fees.

"Really we are going into the second year, we've had a year under our belt to know what those fees need to look like. So we have done a lot of work."

Fees are charged for extra activities like field trips, extra curricular activities and special sessions.

So it really is a better understanding of what services schools are providing, what opportunities are there for kids and they are just covering their costs with those school fees.

"There are no blanket fees that parents are going to have to pay for every student, it is based on specific issues and specific things they are choosing."
