The Foothills School Division is one of the top 10 Canadian school districts to watch on social media.

That according to Box Clever Education, who rated divisions across the country, putting FSD in the top 10.

Communications and Public Relations Manager Candace Denison says the community has also given the division great feedback on their use of social media.

'I started a plan to really improve the school divisions social media about two years ago, " said Denison. "Using it as a tool to reach out to parents and families, get them important information, and really just help celebrate some of the awesome things that are going on in the schools."

She adds by using social media is it opens a conversation with the people reading it.

"People are able to comment and reply to us and we can actual have a bit of dialogue back and forth versus when you go to a website or an email, it is very one way, but social media is by it's very name very social."

Denison adds it is very nice to have their hard work recognized this way.

"One of the reasons we were nominated and put in the top 10 was just because of our pictures and our experience. For that I have to really thank our schools and our families who are the ones who are the subject of what we are sharing."

Box Clever, in their post says, "We commend their team for taking great photos! They're bright and clear, and the shots are creative; shared on Facebook and Twitter, they do an awesome job of providing current and prospective parents and students a glimpse into “a day in the life” of a FSD38 student."

Foothills School Division (FSD) supports approximately 9,000 students in an area south of Calgary encompassing High River, Okotoks, Black Diamond and others.

The Foothills School Division has a smaller following than some of the larger school districts, but their audience is highly engaged and most posts and tweets get a significant number of likes, shares and retweets. Their content is a solid balance of original posts, shared posts, and curated content, and they make a point to incorporate the division brand through their blue and green colours when they can. They also share articles from their Blog on social media to keep traffic coming back to their website.
