The Foothills School Division has finally come home.

After three years of juggling staff, spaces and holding board meetings in a small room in their Facility Services Building, they are all under one roof.

John Bailey, superintendent, says the plans were put in place before he was hired but it was great planning to replace two flood-damaged buildings with one.

"It's a better facility then if we had gone out on our own," said Bailey. "It's always good to partner. We have room for expansion if our division grows and it is a beautiful space."

The division office and the Provincial Building were both damaged in the 2015 flood and an agreement was reached to rebuild with all the services going under one roof, built on the site of the former provincial building.

Drew Chipman, assistant superintendent of corporate Services, says they are excited to get a number of their groups back under the same roof.

"A number of directors on the instructional services side haven't had a place to put their books down, or a desk, they have been able to do that here so that is very helpful for us," said Chipman.

Drew Chipman, Assistant Superintendent of Corporate Services, says part of the deal with the new building was the old school division office lot will become a parking lot.

"That will be parking that will help the division during the day and the provincial government in the day and the community in the evenings and the weekends so there is a place to park downtown."

Chipman added there are a few hazardous materials that need to be taken out of the 1980 building, but once work starts it will come down quickly.
