A week after crying foul in the PC Leadership race, Calgary MLA Sandra Jansen has jumped ship to the governing NDP.

Premier Rachel Notley welcomed her with open arms.

"Sandra has always been a voice for practical, moderate, progressive policy. She's now going to be a compelling voice within our caucus and within our government."

Jansen says she feels the PC's Leadership race was filled with views she didn't share.

"Like most Albertans I was shocked by the bullying and extreme views and intolerance that have characterized the PC Leadership race. I need to leave that behind me now."

She says she feels she made the right choice.

"I feel good. I feel like I'm going to turn a corner with an amazing caucus, with some wonderful people who have my back. And that feels good. It feels hopeful."

Jansen says she's looking forward to getting back to being a legislator.

It's the first time in Alberta history a PC MLA has crossed the floor to join the NDP.
