Residents of Turner Valley and the Foothills are mourning the passing of former Turner Valley Mayor Marjorie Straub.

She passed away Thursday, March 23, at the South Calgary Health Campus.

Current Turner Valley Mayor Kelly Tuck says Straub, lived and breathed all things Turner Valley.

"Her heart and soul went not only into the community, but also to the residents. Marj was a straight talker. She never mixed her words and I think that's what most people appreciated about her. She wore her heart on her sleeve, but when she said something, you knew that when she said it, she knew what she was talking about."

Tuck served with Straub on council back in the 90's and says Marj was never shy with her opinions.

"Marjorie was the type of person that if she thought you needed it, she'd just let you know it. She just used to say things, that she was just very straight forward. If she thought you needed to know something, she was going to let you know."

Straub was a Councillor for three terms and Mayor from 2004 to 2007.

She was just a month shy of her 85th birthday.

From her obituary:

Marjorie was raised in Turner Valley in the beautiful Foothills that she continued to love and live near for her entire life.

She cherished her family and friends and had a great love of music, travel and in helping others.

She is survived by her children Terry Straub and Sharon Wilson of Calgary and her beloved granddaughters Shelby and Shea Wilson as well as her daughter-in-law Sherry Straub and son-in-law Cal Wilson.
