A former Okotoks teacher has been acquitted of child sexual abuse charges in Indonesia.

Neil Bantleman, along with other teaching assistants were released from prison Friday morning after spending a year behind bars.

But there is some legalities that Bantleman has to go through before getting the green light to leave Indonesia, the prosecutors will appeal the decision but he is spending time outside of a Indonesian jail.

If he is able to return to Canada within the next few days, Bantleman is expected to go to Calgary first before heading back to Burlington, Ontario where he was living before he went overseas.

Bantleman and his wife were residents in Okotoks for 10 years, while Neil was a substitute teacher at Good Shepard Elementary School.
