The Turner Valley Golf Club will play host to the 8th Annual Ladies Compassion Cup on Monday, as the Foothills Ladies take to the course to raise money for a good cause.

Chair of the Foothills Ladies Compassion Cup Committee Kate Gernat says the all-ladies golf tournament is a long-running tradition that began as a way to support women throughout the community.

"The Compassion Cup was started by a group of women in Okotoks who wanted to create a place for women to come together to raise money for organizations within the Foothills, specifically benefiting women in the Foothills," she says. "So it's women working for women."

Gernat says this year's charity of choice is the Narrow Road Home in High River, an addiction and recovery service for women.

"They are a new organization in the Foothills region," she says. "We thought this was a perfect opportunity for our group to help someone starting out to get off on the right foot, and have a good, solid start."

Although registration for the tournament is over, Gernat says they may be able to accommodate a last-minute entry.

"Unfortunately we have already passed our deadline," she says. "If someone really wanted to participate or join us, they can definitely reach out and we'll see what we can do."
