Flu season is on its way and there are already 37 more cases in Alberta this fall than this time last year and early indicators suggest it's not going to get any better.

Khal Mohamaed, Pharmacist at High River Pharmacy says the flu shot will be available October 24.

"It's recommended for seniors and people with high risk conditions like asthma, pneumonia, high blood pressure and those with compromised immune systems."

He says they will be having flu clinics at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Centre every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am to 1pm starting October 24.

Mohamaed says the vaccine will also be offered at his pharmacy downtown across from the Royal Bank.

He says everyone should get the flu shot.

"The flu itself is not a good experience it's much worse than the common cold and we see every day some people get hospitalized because of the flu adn we don't want that to happen to our community."

Last year Alberta saw 1,400 hospitalizations and 62 confirmed deaths due to influenza.
