The Town of Okotoks is taking steps towards reducing it's carbon footprint and looking out for citizens well-being.

Town Council has passed the first reading of an anti-idling bylaw.

Bill Robertson, Mayor of Okotoks, says the bylaw presently comes into effect with certain temperatures.

"The anti-idling bylaw at present doesn't take place until after 25 degrees so if it's 27 degrees out then somebody is able to keep their vehicle idling for extended periods of time to keep it cool  for comfort," he says. "There are some things with low temperatures also."

Robertson says council will gather feedback on the bylaws guidelines.

"There are certain temperature parameters that come into play with the anti idling bylaw and we're getting citizen input as to what everybody feels would be acceptable."

Town Council will address the anti-idling bylaw again at a future meeting.
