As firefighters work tirelessly to battle the Kenow Wildfire at Waterton Lakes National Park some members of the MD of Willow Creek Fire Department have been deployed to the scene.

Nanton Fire Chief John G Dozeman says so far they have sent four members down to help.

"We started on Friday and it sounds like we are continuing through the weekend," said Dozeman. "Right now I have two members down there as well as
Claresholm and Fort Macleod firefighters and some from Stavely."

He said they had been very busy protecting the Waterton Townsite.

"The operation has been going very well. There is a lot of coordination between the provincial operations centre, Parks Canada, agriculture and forestry, it has just been an amazing effort all the way around."

Dozeman has been with the Nanton Fire Department for 25 years and he says he has never seen a September this dry, and the rain falling over the past few days isn't doing a lot to make things better.

The department trains a lot for situations like the one in Waterton, they had to fight a bad grass fire in 2012 when three homes were destroyed.

"We try to stay prepared for this time of year especially with harvest," he said.
