The Okotoks Fire Department is still hard at work as the first week of fall hit last week.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says they had a mixed bag of calls.

"We had two fire responses, eight medical responses, three public hazards we attended to," he says. "We had five alarm system activations and four motor vehicle collisions for a total of 22 responses."

The department has responded to 805 total calls this calendar year and Thevenot says that number is a little higher than 2014.

"We were at 729 so we're about 76 calls ahead," he says. "Since the summer we were at one point 107 ahead of last year so we'd dropped in that sense in the last I would say since we month and since we started these reports we've slowly declined our responses which is good."

Thevenot says there's still a chance that calls will go up as fall progresses but so far it's been an average year for calls in his detachment.

"Our average per week has not been as steady incline as it was in the first part of the year so we'll see how the second half of fall goes for us but it seems like they're pretty average weeks so far this year."

The department will be hosting an open house this Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the Fire Hall for those interested in joining Thevenot's team of dedicated fire fighters.
