High River now has a new bylaw to govern filming that's done for movies and television shows.

The Manager of Economic Development, Jodi Dawson says in the past, production companies had to come to the town and work out an arrangement.

"We've just done it on a case by case basis, so most recently we've charged a day rate of $500 a day," she says. "In the instance of the most recent film production company, they gave us a retainer so if there were any damages to any facilities, we could take it off of that retainer and of course Tin Star providied an awful lot of donations."

The new bylaw has two levels, one for simple productions where there isn't a lot of upheaval and the more complex agreements for productions that have to shut down roads for a period of time.

Dawson says student films or non-profit productions will not be charged.

Revenue collected in relation to this Policy will be split between the Community Vitality Fund and the Public Arts Fund.
