Eighty students from Cayley school loaded up onto two yellow school buses on June 22 and came to High River to spread some cheer with their fiddle music.

Their first stop was at Sunshine Terrace Villas.

The second stop at the community piano in downtown had to be changed because of bad weather to Joe Clark School.

Teacher Barb Haney Jones says the program is mandatory from Kindergarten to Grade 5.

"We also have 10 students from Grade 6, 7 and 8 who play during their lunch time."

Jones says the fiddle program started 12 years ago as an idea to make the school even more special and increase enrollment.

She added the program is unique to Canada.

The final stop on their tour was at the hospital where some students played outside, some on the second floor and some on the third floor.

"It is a treat for us to, because it is a way for us to give back to our community."
