Thanks to Alberta's new carbon tax, the Federal Government is raking in an extra $75 million a year in tax money from us.

The Feds are tacking on the 5 per cent GST on top of the carbon tax, which is resulting in a lot more cash heading to Ottawa.

Foothills MP John Barlow says the Liberals had promised the GST would be "revenue neutral" when added to the carbon tax, but that's proved to be wrong.

"We knew that the GST would be charged on the carbon tax. We knew they were lying. So my colleague, Mark Warawa, put a request into the Library of Parliament for information. When the data came back it showed the government would be making over $150 million dollars from B.C. and Alberta in 2017."

Both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Environment Minister Catherine Mckenna have said since the start, Ottawa wouldn't get a dime in extra revenue from provincial carbon taxes.

Barlow says Albertans should be "up in arms" over seeing more of their tax dollars going to Ottawa.
