Good news for Waterton area residents.

Parks Canada officials have lifted the evacuation alert that's been in place for the townsite since last week because of the Boundary Wildfire.

They say 20mm of rain overnight has helped to keep the fire from spreading, but is nowhere near enough to put it out.

However they say the fire, which is completely on the U.S. side of the border, in Glacier National Park, is much less of a danger to the Waterton townsite now, allowing them to lift the evacuation alert.

Parks Canada officials will, of course, continue to monitor the fire closely.
