The Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) Committee attended this week's High River Town Council Meeting to discuss their report regarding the program and proposed changes.

Council Representative for the DRP Commitee, Bruce Masterman says this the latest chapter in what has been a fairly long saga with DRP and High River and the committee. He notes that the report is a positive thing that brings all of the concerns together.

"I think it's a very positive move to finally have this report that kind of puts all the concerns of the community outreach workers that they've faced in the past couple years. The committee has noticed and has talked to various provincial bureaucrats and ministers about (it), and it kind of just puts it all in one document that we really need them to look at this and make some changes."

Masterman notes that the DRP committee has been hard at work.

"They're a very hard working bunch. They meet at least once a week, sometimes twice a week. They really have felt the pain of High River and the people of High River that have been dealing with DRP. Some of that has been very positive, but unfortunately an awful lot of it has not been positive."

He says the committee plans to continue improving the Disaster Recovery Program.

"We will continue to work with the Minister. You know, the new government just seems a little bit more condusive and accepting and agreeable to change to make things better. And we'll also be working with some of our allies, other municipalities, to make sure that DRP is front and centre and that it's not something that three years from the flood is just something that's going to go away."

Masterman notes that the DRP Committee is focusing on making things more efficient and people more compassionate for the next community to go through a disaster.
