Drivers are urged to take care this long weekend because along with the high volume of drivers heading off to enjoy the last long weekend of the summer farmers are moving their harvest equipment around.

High River RCMP Sgt. Brent Hawker says it is always busy on the last long weekend of the summer.

"We would ask people, when they are going out on the roadways, to be particularly cautious around farm equipment as well as trailers and RVs that are on the roadway," said Hawker.

He also adds make sure you give farm equipment plenty of room as they can make sudden turns into a field and the back end can often encroach in an extra lane.

"Give those slow moving vehicles plenty of room to manoeuvre."

And always be careful driving past emergency workers and tow trucks who are working on the highway.

"On an non-divided highway always slow down to 60 km when passing emergency vehicles which includes tow trucks."

Or on a divided highway if you move to the inside lane you can travel at normal highway speeds as long as there is a free moving lane between you and the emergency vehicles on the side of the road.

"I travel the roads considerably and I see often people even slow down on the inside lane which we encourage because those people out on the roadways doing their jobs we to ensure they can do that as safely as possible."
