High River RCMP received three complaints Thursday from people about an e-mail they've received.

Sergeant Brent Hawker says the e-mail informs them that they've received a traffic ticket.

"The Internet message suggests that they make a payment on the ticket, and we just wanted to let people know that's a fraudulent e-mail," Sgt. Hawker says. "The government doesn't issue tickets through the Internet, that if you do get one it's usually through the mail and indicates a docket number, so we're asking people if they receive such an e-mail, just delete it."

He says information has been sent on to an anti-fraud centre in Ottawa so they're aware of it.

Sgt. Hawker says this scam is fairly new and they wanted to get the information out there especially since they've had three complaints in one morning.

If you have any questions about a ticket you receive, you can call the RCMP to make sure it's legitimate.
