With the last weekend of the Calgary Stampede underway Alberta AG Minister Oneil Carlier is encouraging visitors to check out the agriculture displays.

Carlier says the farming displays helps keep the stampede connected to their roots.

"I think in modern society it gives an opportunity for urban people to have a least a bit of a sense of what agriculture means to Alberta," said Carlier. "And what it means to them and means to our economy, and for the little ones it is an opportunity for them to see something they haven't seen before, like a cow getting milked."

Carlier demonstrated how to milk a cow to a crowd of people earlier this week, it was something he did a lot of while growing up.

"We would milk in the morning and again after school," he said.

His mother sold the cream and they would make butter and ice cream to keep for themselves.

And he admits he did the chore sometimes under duress as he prepay would have rather have been playing ball.

The Agriculture Showcase has farm animals of all kinds and competitions where the animals are shown.
