The Cochrane Movie House was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday, December 11 as they closed to the public and hosted a special, invitation only, screening of new Disney movie "Togo".

Togo was filmed in and around Cochrane, and the movie features plenty of locals who were involved and invited to the special screening.

Some dogs featured in the film are from Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours, located in Canmore, AB.

Vice President of Marketing for Walt Disney Canada, Greg Mason says film crews were camped out in the area for a long time.

"This is very special, we are back in Cochrane where this all started and our crew was living here for a long period of time. So we have all the cast and crew that are in the area. Locals, vendors, people who just helped out with project and were very much involved. Our Director, Ericson Core wanted to come back and be here. We also invited some special guests from the Cochrane Boys and Girls Club, some special government guests from Alberta which was such an incredibly supportive province for us on this project."

Director Ericson Core says many viewers will recognize locations used throughout the film.

"Well we did a bit at CL Ranch, we shot a lot of it at Fortress Mountain and other areas throughout the Kananaskis and otherwise that you'll certainly recognize." Core adds "This is an Alberta film through and through. We didn't film on stage one day, we didn't use green screens, we shot here for real and if you know the Cochrane area and the surrounding mountains, you'll know the film was made here."

Togo is an upcoming American drama film that is set to debut on Disney+ on December 20.

It was based on the true story of the 1925 serum run to Nome Alaska and focuses on the lead sled dog Togo and his owner Leonhard Seppala.

The film was directed by Ericson Core, produced by Kim Zubick, written by Tom Flynn and stars Willem Dafoe.
