Christ The Redeemer School Division has gone across the country to find their next group of dedicated educators in the past few years.

With teachers from the Universities of Saskatchewan, Guelph and beyond being part of their new group of teachers coming in, the range of where everyone is from is near and far.

Chief Deputy Superintendant Gary Chiste says it's all part of the recruiting process when filling vacancies.

"We've been this for a number of years, we actually went to 19 different university job fairs searching out the best catholic teachers we can find,". "When we have this new group here, part of what we do when we introduce them is we share what university they've gone to and they're basically across Canada."

35 new teachers will represent the division this coming school year.

Chiste says when going through the hiring process it's hard to compete with the bigger school divisions when trying to find the right person for the job.

"They get scooped up by the bigger boards," he says. "Calgary Catholic, Calgary Public, Edmonton Catholic, Edmonton Public, Rockyview. So we find as especially because we're looking for catholic teachers as well, our pool of candidates is that much smaller to draw from."

Chiste says the search for Catholic teachers can be tough, but those looking for work in the Catholic system don't necessarily have to go through additional courses to become a candidate in the division.

"Some students take specialized catholic education courses, but we also do our own faith formation that helps them form as catholic teachers."

Chiste says if it takes extra time to find that perfect candidate the division will do it.

"We want to find the strongest people," he says.
