It cost a pretty penny to hold last May's provincial vote.

Elections Alberta's final report shows it cost $18,987748 to hold the 2015 election, an increase of 28.21 per cent from the 2012 election.

That works out to $6.73 per vote cast compared to $5.57 per vote in 2012.

The reasons given for the increased costs were the need for more polls because of population growth, 7,000 first-time poll clerks who had to trained, an additional day of advance polling and higher postage costs.

It costs $133,125 in the Highwood riding, $129,729 in Livingstone MacLeod and $90,800 in Little Bow.
