A crash on northbound Deerfoot Trail has sent two EMS paramedics and a Calgary police officer injured by one of those involved in it.

Crews arrived between Memorial Drive and 17 Street S.E. around d 4 o'clock this afternoon where at least four vehicles were involved.

When they arrived on scene they were confronted by a combative man who'd been involved in the accident.

Several members of emergency services tried to subdue the patient who was tasered but it didn't work.

Police say it's unknown why the man was combative, but after being sedated he was taken to hospital.

One paramedic suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in non life threatening condition while a second paramedic and police officer received minor injuries.

Two members of the public involved in the initail crash were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The northbound left lane approaching Memorial Drive on Deerfoot Trail remains closed although traffic is getting through again.
