Snow melt could be posing problems for home owners.

The Town of Okotoks is offering tips to residents to help them avoid damage to their homes caused by water and snow.

It's recommended sump pumps are checked to make sure they're running properly and furnace and exhaust vents should be free of snow and ice blockages to avoid carbon monoxide build-up in the home.

Downspouts should be pointing away from the house and snow should be shovelled away from the foundation and window wells to avoid water seepage.

Snow should be cleared away from storm drains once it begins to melt and the drain is visible. If a storm drain is covered in ice or blocked the Town needs be contacted by calling (403) 938- 8952 to report the issue.
