The Okotoks Dawgs organization has done it again.

Another successful breast cancer awareness game has come and gone and after nine years the Dawgs and fans have raised almost $250,000 for breast cancer research.

William Gardner, Vice President of the Dawgs, says it's the fans support that allows them to accomplish such fundraising feats.

"These are the greatest fans in all of baseball as we say it and they support our team in such incredible ways...And we are so proud that they partner with us in these tremendous endeavors that we partner up on and we are so glad and thrilled that our fans have embraced them and supported them as well...they allow us to support so many great organizations in the Foothills corridor. "

Jerseys were auctioned between innings right off the players backs, the Okotoks fire department accepted donations through their fill the boot campaign and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation also accepted donations on the concourse.

Gardner says, the day not only raises money to give back to the foundation but also recognizes the people of the foundation.

"It's an unbelievable event, an unbelievable amount of money raised and in addition we also posted literally hundreds of breast cancer survivors, their families, volunteers to the Canadian Breast Cancer foundation, they come to these games as our guests and we are just delighted that as part of the day they can have that celebratory time with us as well."

It's a privilege, Gardner says, to give back to the Foothills community.

"Part of what we view is the importance of the Dawgs in the community is to be part of the community and to support as many community endeavors that we can... we count it our privilege and we count it as really being good partners in the community to be apart of these great events."

The Dawgs also work with the prostate cancer centre, united way, the foothills hospice and many other charitable groups throughout the season.

At this years game a total of $22,000 was raised, with the highest bidding jerseys belonging to Anthony Balderas and Doug Clapperton going for $1,000 each.

The Dawgs also beat the Edmonton Prospects 12- 9 putting a cherry on top of the very successful night.
