Okotoks Dawgs fans got a little more than they bargained for Saturday, February 2, at the Dawgs annual awards night.

About halfway through his speech, sportswriter, Bob Elliot, cut it short saying he wasn't feeling well.

Moments after he sat down at his table, he collapsed suffering an apparent heart attack.

Quick action from Okotoks Dawgs Trainer Savannah Walper and another Dawgs coach, likely saved his life.

The crowd was ushered across the parking lot into the Pason Centennial Arena, while paramedics worked on Elliot, eventually taking him to hospital in Calgary.

He's reported to be recovering well.
