The Town of Black Diamond saw a small drop in the amount of crime committed in town in 2014.

Black Diamond Protective Services presented their findings to council last week.

Mayor Sharlene Brown says all in all it was good year for the town.

"Every community has issues." she says. "What I found that was nice about the report was that there was 167 by-law infractions in 2014."

She says the low number of infractions were usually related to dog registration or property violations but residents have taken the time to make sure they uphold the law.

"We have less than 10 per cent of residents are responsible for our by-law infractions and I think that's a really good statistic."

Brown says residents are constantly in the know-how of how the town by-laws are, thanks to their dedicated unit of police officers.

"Those focuses of education is really, really important," she says. "So as we're moving forward, we're creating a bond with community with our protective services, not everybody knows what the by-laws are around dogs or not everybody knows what the by-laws are around properties."

317 traffic violation tickets were issued in 2014 which is down from the 367 tickets given out in 2013.

Protective services added those numbers dropped due to an officer not having the authority to write tickets in the last three months of the year.
