Town Council voted to move forward on the proposed Arts and Learning Campus at last night's meeting.

A report from Corporate Strategist Jamie Dugdale at last night's meeting included new numbers on the project.

Council's initial approval of the first phase included a $23.3 million price tag, but last night's report featured an amended $18.3 million projected cost to the Town.

The project's first phase was approved at the May 27 Council meeting. That phase will include the learning campus, office buildings that will include offices for Foothills and Christ the Redeemer school divisions, as well as an expanded home for the library.

Notably, since the first phase was approved in the spring, Christ the Redeemer has agreed to pay $1 million more, for a total of $6 million, and will occupy the entire third floor of the new office building.

The report last night also included information on the Town's plan for flood mitigation in the new building, parking, sustainability initiatives, and much more.

March 2020 is the targeted date for construction to begin, with July 2021 as the targeted completion date for the office building.

According to the report, stakeholders and town planners will now begin an extensive design process and work on the development approval process.

The second phase of the project, which has yet to be approved by the Council, would include a performing arts centre and a parkade.
