An initiative that started last year looking to bring Okotoks communities together is back.

The team of block connectors and connector coordinators are looking to help unite people through their common interests, services, and questions in their neighbourhoods.

Currently there's four coordinators in Okotoks for the areas of Cimarron, Westmount, Sheep river, and Drake Landing.

Kristel Boon, connector coordinator for Cimarron, says the project offers an easy way for people to get to know what's going on through social media.

"The idea is to connect everybody in that neighbourhood on the Facebook page, and have conversations going that can be as crazy as organizing a block party, advertising baby sitting services or looking for someone to shovel their driveway," she says. "Everything and anything can be posted on the Facebook page to connect with your immediate neighbours."

Boon says they're going to begin door knocking to inform residents about their initiative, promote the Facebook pages, and find new block connectors.

"Those people would be the 'go-to' person in their specific block of say 20 to 30 houses, then myself as a coordinator I'll get together with my block connectors two or three times a year to touch base and brain storm to see what initiatives we can do to get the whole neighbourhood together."

She adds she has plans to see the program grow and add more neighbourhoods over time.

The Facebook pages can be found by searching "Okotoks Network- 'name of neighbourhood' ", for example, Okotoks Network- Cimarron.
