Caitland Asmundson with Our High River is reminding residents of a Community Cafe being held at the High River Library on Wednesday May 17 from 5 - 8pm.

She says it's a great opportunity for people in the community to connect and get to know one another.

"Every month we hold a community conversation called Community Cafe. It's an opportunity for residents to come together and just get connected with their community in a really casual atmosphere."

She says this week they'll be focusing on "How's Your Five" which is a program that teaches people how to communicate more effectively.

"The five are Work, Love, Sleep, Play and Eat. When we're meeting new people or people we know well we might say to them how are you and they say fine but that kind of ends the conversation."

She says using this pattern helps break down barriers when talking to people and gives them the opportunity to open up a bit more to have a genuine conversation.

Asmundson says every month Our High River has a Community Cafe at a different location throughout town.

"The most important aspect of Community Cafe is just to invite people to get together in a non-threatening environment where everybody is welcome to come and get connected and get to know someone it's just casual conversation like at a coffee shop."

She says light refreshments will be served and encourages people to stop by.
