The President of High River's Chamber of Commerce isn't jumping for joy over the Town's 6.3 percent tax hike on commercial properties.

Steven Muth says it's a "stout jump" but when you compare it to other places in Alberta, it's not over the top.

"When you compare it to a Calgary, Airdrie or some other smaller towns in Alberta. But still, in this economy and this point in time, it is a tough thing for a lot of businesses to try and factor into their cost scenario."

What he does like is Council's plan to reinvest that money in the Town through infrastructure improvements and capital reserves.

"This town when it comes to investing back in itself. And I know this is going to make people angry. They've been inept for the past 25 years. And we are so far behind where we need to be to attract those businesses and those residents to town, it's very disappointing. So, how do you fix that? You've got to spend some money."

Muth admits with no business tax in High River the Town is still very competitive compared to other towns and cities in the region.
