High River residents and business owners are being reminded they are responsible for clearing snow from pathways and sidewalks after a storm.

Jason Burrows from Operation Services with the Town of High River says if you don't remove it they'd be happy to do it for you but at a cost.

"If it doesn't get removed the Town has the right to come in and remove it which will be put back toward your taxes at the end of the year," he says.

Burrows says this applies everywhere except in the downtown core where the Town is still clearing walks for this year.

This bylaw applies only to residential and commercial properties outside of the downtown area as the Town has assumed temporary responsibility for ensuring that all sidewalks in the downtown area will remain clear of snow for the 2016 season.

If property owners cannot remove snow on sidewalks adjacent to their property in accordance with the bylaw, they are encouraged to make alternate arrangements with friends, neighbours or contractors.
