Claresholm's CAO has picked up a prestigious award heading into this week's Alberta Urban Municipalities Convention.

Marian Carlson is the 2020 winner of the Dedicated CAO Award, which recognizes long-term excellence and dedication to both municipal government and chief administrative management.

Carlson says all the credit has to go to her staff.

"And that's what makes me successful. It's the people that you have around you that can actually build the organization and I really appreciate the Council I work with and you learn to work with different personalities and different goals and objectives."

Carlson, who's spent the better part of the last 30 years working in municipal administration says she's in no rush to retire.

"I actually am really enjoying my job. I really like the community, it's a great community. Great community support. Lots of activity going on, business generation and we have some really positive things happening here."

She says normally she'd have to make a speech at the convention which runs Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25 in Calgary, but because of COVID it's all being done online this year, so she'll likely get the award in the mail.

Carlson says she gets a small cheque as part of the award and will use the cash to take her team out for a fancy dinner.
